Day Seven-- Mackinac Island

Today, we got up and had the Grand Hotel breakfast buffet-- you get seated and have a server and then have the option of ordering off the menu (omelets, pancakes, etc) or just going to the buffet. They have sausage, scrambled eggs, crepes (really yummy), yogurt, granola, cereal, etc.

After breakfast, we took a carriage ride down to Main Street where we spent the next few hours walking around downtown (all of two streets) and shopping.

In the afternoon we came back up the hill to the hotel and then we walked down to the pool and I stuck my feet in and took in some sun. The pool was built for the actress Ester Williams in 1946 for the movie "This Time for Keeps." She was a famous actress who did underwater dancing stuff. What's funny is they built for pool for her-- it's on a hill so they had to build the area for it and it looks at the Mackinac Straits-- but the water was too cold for her so they made a replica in Florida, and that's where the pool scenes were filmed.

We wandered around the grounds for a while and sat by the big fountain in the field below the hotel.

After all this walking, G'ma needed a break, so we went back to our room that's the 2nd from the end on the main floor, and she took a nap and I started my homework for the week.

Then, we got ready for dinner and had another totally fabulous meal! This time, I had smoked salmon encrusted with parley for an appetizer; mushroom and wild rice soup; vine ripe tomatoes and other tiny pieces of veggies as a salad; my main course was Cajon Michigan Whitetail fish with risotto and asparagus; and finally, dessert was a chololate hazelnut torte. Oh my goodness! So yummy!

After dinner, we took a picture on the famous front red carpeted steps and then went back to our room to watch "The Bachelorette" (shameful, I know...!).
