So, at the moment, I'm sitting in York, Nebraska avoiding the 95 degree and 60% humidity outside! We left Coloma at 6:30am and got here just before 5pm local time (6pm Coloma time). It was a long, hot day with traffic accidents and construction delays. I drank 96 ounces of water (crazily enough) during our drive-- all I can say is: thank goodness for rest stops when you're carrying a 32 oz bottle of water around :)Yesterday, we got up for church but when G'ma and I got to Benton Harbor about 20 min from Coloma, there was a sign on the door saying there was no power and so meetings were canceled. Se la vi! We went over to see if another one of my great-uncles was home so we could visit him but he wasn't, so we went over to the Coloma Cemetary to visit the graves of my great grandparents and great-great grandparents and some other relatives.
Then, we went to lunch with Verlo, drove out to Lake Michigan and did some ankle wading. Afterwards, we made the pilgrimage to the Dairy Queen for Blizzards. Mine leaked all over the skirt I was wearing (I felt like a little kid covered in gooey chocolate and sticky ice cream!). You'd think you'd grow out of making huge messes all over yourself! Anyway. We hung out at the house for a while, then went to visit the Serrat Nature Center. We looked at the snake, frog, rabbit, rock exhibits, saw racoons feeding and wandered on some trails to an observation deck overlooking the forest. It was pretty cool being almost as tall as most of the trees!
We made tacos for dinner and had Strawberry Shortcake (with fresh Michigan strawberries on warm Pillsbury bisquits) for dessert! Yummy!! G'ma and Verlo and I played this game called Imposter for a while as we ate fudge (yeah... I'm soooo working out forever when I get home!) and talked.
It was a good, if rather unusual, Sunday!
