It's a SHe Thing!

Quote of the Day
All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.
Walt Disney

So, I'm the VP of Social Media for the Utah Chapter of Singular Humanitarian experience (SHe). It's a humanitarian group for single LDS in their mid 20's and 30's. Tonight we had a meeting with all the Utah VP's and the Utah President and it was amazing! We're trying to plan fundraising events for the year so that SHe has money with which to buy building, medical and educational supplies to take to Guatemala, Bolivia, and Nepal during 2010.

As we were talking, we'd brainstorm and piggy back off each other with ideas, concepts and people who could help us. Between us we know Don Osmond (son of Donny), April Messevry (an LDS singer), other singers (like Alex Boyay) doctors, lawyers, caterers, dentists. We have contacts with people in education, high ups in the Church (cousins of wives of Apostles or on committee with general leaders), athletics at the University of Utah, the business community, and many, many others. It was amazing! Between the 5 of us who sat around the kitchen table, we had so many resources and so much passion for what we're doing-- it was incredible and really invigorating!

I'm so excited about this!! We're planning a fundraising semi-formal dinner for March. We're working putting together a 5/10k run for May. We have event plans for every month of the year from service projects to fundraisers!

It looks like I'm going to Guatemala in July! I can help with teacher training for the teachers in a few of the villages in the valley where we'll be!! I'm SOOOOOOO excited! It's so amazing to be part of something so much larger than yourself!

Side note: One of the main SHe guys did a presentation at BYU and the Church's Humanitarian Director was there. He came up to the presenter and said something to the effect of "I just met with Julie Beck today (the Gen. Relief Society Pres) and she was saying that she wished there was something meaningful for singles in the Church to get involved with and now I just heard you."  There must be something to this!

From the first moment I read about this group in the Meridian Magazine, I knew I had to be part of this!!

Check it out at www.singularhumanitarian.org

I also made a Facebook group as part of my duties: Utah Singular Humanitarian Experience (Sheute).

**You will probably hear more about this as the events start happening and I need people to attend!!

Sounds fabulous and a great way to spend the summer. Will that be the extent of your summer travels, or is there still another trip in the works?
