St George 1/2 Marathon

Janet, Mike and I drove to St. George Friday night so Janet and I could run in the St. George 1/2 Marathon. We stayed with one of my uncles and his family down there and he and his wife ran in the race with us Saturday morning.

While I finished in my goal time (2:30:00) this was a really hard race for me because I couldn't find my rhythm until about mile 7 and by the time I hit mile 12, I was done. As I ran the first part of mile 13 the song on my iPod had the chorus, "I feel like I'm in a race that will never end," which pretty much sums up how I felt about my situation at that moment! I loved seeing Mike at the 9 mile mark and on the last stretch before the turn to the finish line (where I told him I really just wanted to die). At the finish line were some of my cousins who were really fun to see and hug (even as sweaty as I was). I guess you know you're family when you willingly hug someone right after they've run 13 miles!

Since I finished my second half marathon (Bear Lake last June was the first), I think I'm going to get one of those 13.1 stickers for my car!

Congratulations on your second half marathon! I am working on that goal myself--mostly because I want the 13.1 sticker on my car too. I know--not the greatest reason, but I figure I will see it everytime I walk around the car to get in and will be reminded that I did something really hard. I enjoy reading your blog and keeping up with you and with your family through you. Hope you don't mind. Venita Dimmick
