Saturday, Mom's platelets dropped to 20 from 27. But, she made progress and was able to be off her blood pressure cuff and oxygen permanently. I didn't go up to see her because she was getting a ton of visitors and all but one of her siblings was in town that day and they all went up to visit. She gets worn out by lots of people and I didn't want to contribute to her getting too tired.
Yesterday, I sent her my daily, "How are you doing today?" text and this is what I got back:
Good. I will be leaving the icu at 10:45 yahoo
and then she told me her new room number.
Mike, his kids and I went to visit her yesterday afternoon. Mike's little girl, who's four, has been praying for my mom since they met in March. In fact, when the ex dropped the kids off for Mike's b'day dinner Friday, she said, "We're really sorry about your mom."
I said, "Well, she's been in the ICU all week."
"We don't really know what's going on other than what the kids tell us but H prays for her everyday."
How sweet is that?! Even at her mom's without anyone to remind her, H prays for her.
Ok, so Mom was so nice to let us all come. B (the eight year old) stayed pretty quiet and seemed hesitant to be there, but H was all about the questions and comments and concerns.
"Your hair is growing back."
"What's that white thing around your arm?"
"Why do you have a bracelet?"
"How long are you going to be sick?"
I entertained them by showing them Mom's cool bed (they let her keep the one from the ICU) that plays music. There's a digital menu that does all these cool things... like play music and weigh her and keeps track of all the positions the bed has been in and lots of other things.
Mom looked better yesterday than I've seen her in a long, long time. Her eyes are bright, her face is a natural color, she has energy and she actually seems happy. Her platelets had jumped up to 41! They haven't been this high for a couple of months. Hopefully, whatever job they were doing is done and now they can spread around more.
All six of Mom's siblings came and so we left since hospital rooms can only hold so many people before you're tripping all over one another. I hope they got good pictures of the seven of them.
Today, I sent Mom my "how are you doing today?" text and she wrote back:
A good day. Getting out of bed to shower and walk. Probably go home tomorrow. Got 2 more units of blood.

I'm glad she is doing better. And grateful that you are able to switch roles for a time and care for her. The image of you rubbing her face to comfort her is so sweet. She is lucky to have you and you are lucky to have her.
