Elizabeth "Lisa" Joy Banks van Komen passed away Saturday, August 20th at 2:45am.

She was surrounded by her husband and daughters who, during the night, held her hands and whispered in her ear it was okay for her to leave.

Words cannot express the loss we feel at her passing nor can we express the comfort of the Spirit as we mourn and try to pick up and create new lives without her.

Thank you for keeping everyone updated these past few days. My mom and I are both sorry to see her go, but also happy that her suffering is at an end. It was a long and hard fight for her and all of you and I hope the healing begins soon, or maybe it already has. We can only imagine the exquisite physical relief she experienced and the joy she has now with her parents and others.

Adrienne, I'm so sorry for the loss of your Mom. She is truly a special lady. I remember making flowers for Amanda's wedding with your Mom and all of you girls at the Duncan's. I remember thinking how classy, sweet and smart you each were, and who could not be, with such a wonderful Mother. We are thinking of your family and praying for your comfort.

What a beautiful picture of your mom. It truly depicts her beautiful spirit--such a bright smile for everyone. Please know that your family is in our heart, thoughts and prayers for Heavenly Father to wrap His arms around you and bring you peace as only He can. I have much to be thankful for in having known your mother. She was a shining example of good--as a wife, mother and as a woman. I feel blessed for knowing her.

I am so sorry for your families loss. Your mother was a good friend to me and a wonderful example of a righteous and loving wife and mother! What a blessing to all be with her this past week. It is so hard to lose a parent. You will often feel her spirit. Know the joy she is experiencing as she is reunited with her family and friends on the other side. The Lord truly has a special work for her to do. Know you will be together again!

I had no idea when I talked to your mom a few days ago that she was so close to the end of her journey here on earth. She was her usual sweet self and told me she was happy to hear from me. I haven't seen her in more then 14 years. But when Marcea told me where they were living and what was going on I called to say hello. I am so grateful now that I did. And feel blessed to have had the opportunity to tell her the impact she had on my life as a seminary teacher and yw leader. She was a truly amazing example! She will be missed and loved for the rest of our lives. You are all in my prayers.

Adrienne, So very sad to hear about the heartache of losing your sweet mom. She's a beautiful lady with a kind giving spirit. I still have a copy of one of her recipes I still use even 15 years after moving from the Oviedo ward. My prayers are with you and your family. May Heavenly Father bless you with His peace.

We were graced by her friendship, love, compassion and example. Another candle will be dimmed for now, but how fortunate we all are in knowing that this is temporary. Personally, I look forward to the future and a continued friendship beyond the veil. Love and prayers to dad and all of the vanKomen clan. If possible, please post funeral arrangements so family out your way can be informed. Our hearts are sad tonight.
Much love, Fran and Rick

Adrienne. I just read some of your blog and I am a sobbing mess right now. I can't imagine your grief, yet your words are so beautifully composed. Your mom IS amazing and she raised some very amazing children. She was lucky to have you in her final days of this journey on earth. I am praying for you and your family.

Dear Adrienne: Your blog is a beautiful tribute to the elect lady that your mom was. I was blessed to be able to visit her weekly during the winter and spring months after her diagnosis and always felt humbled and strengthened afterward. Her neighborhood and ward mourn with you--we all loved her. I will miss her sweet "hello" when she answered the phone; I will miss her blue eyes that always sparkled; I will miss watching her take her power-walks throughout the neighborhood which continued even after she became sick as she lugged "Betty" along; most especially, I will miss her friendship. She is at peace now and may your family also be blessed with the spirit of peace.
Love,
Julie Adams
