Fear Factor Party!

The party began with Little Caesar's pizza and the first challenge: make 3 baskets or drink cow's blood (a mixture of blended tomatoes, banana, chili power, garlic, vanilla, salt, etc.). Most of the boys purposefully missed their shots to try the drink. A couple boys commented that the cow must have eaten some peppers!

The next event involved eating a full diaper. Yes, it was only chocolate pudding and gummi worms in there, but the power of suggestion is a great thing! The boys had 30 seconds to eat the all the pudding without using their hands.

A relay competition between the two teams came next. This invovled running a handful of (boiled) chicken feet and chicken gizzards across the yard (they had to go under the trampoline) to their teammate who got the pile of chicken parts and had to go back across the yard. If a chicken foot dropped, they had to pick it up with their mouth and keep going. Some of the boys thought chicken feet were fascinating and others were totally grossed out!

After this, the next team game involved tying and locking up an opposing team member and then finding the key to free their teammate. The catch was that the keys they needed were buried in kitty litter (decorated with tootsie rolls and fake cockroaches). I was impressed at the tying up jobs: pirate handcuffs learned at Scout camp work really well!
Next up, the boys had the choice of participating or not (earning a point or not) to eat one bite of a pickled pig's foot. Half of the boys did it and the others look on in amusement. A couple boys attempted to take a bite but just couldn't quite muster the stomache for it; others took little nibbles and called it good.

The next team activity required each boy be blindfolded then dig through the "Mud Eye Moodie" pool to find 1- an eye, 2- a rat, 3- a foot or hand, 4- a cockroach, or 5- a finger. The team that finished each task first got the points. This proved pretty easy but they were fascinated by the fake items.

By far the oddest event: giving a lick to a cow tongue. We had boiled it and it turned a strange grey color while retaining its sponge-like texture. One boy wanted to earn another point so he came back and kissed it! Ew!
Jalepeno challenge: bite and chew a jalepeno for 5 seconds. We picked the peppers from the garden just a few minutes before the challenge so they were literally hot off the vine! We had mini cups of milk once they were done. The last challenge invovled eating a gummi worm or holding a live worm from the garden in their lips for 30 seconds. Surprisingly, five boys decided to do the real worm and it was gross!

Last of all, we gave out prizes. The kid with the most points got first choice in the prize bag: fake gross teeth, magic tricks, googly eyes, candy. Then, a yummy cake from Baskin Robbins (thanks, Aunt Mary!), and presents. It was a great party!

Great party and pics. Thanks for sharing: I had wondered how it would all turn out and how that Fear Factor theme would go over. Great ideas for YM/YW activities too.

As to the emotions and time, find that quiet place-bathroom??? and cry. I still cry about my parents and others even though it has been many years. I even got weepy today in Fast/Testimony meeting when speaking about the love for those who we have known and leave us whether it be passing on or moving. Just go day to day and give only what you have at the moment.
Know that you all are thought of and prayed for.

What an awesome party! I am amazed that Will is 13--and that it has been that long since our days in Heather Heights. Your honesty about your many feelings as you grieve and the new roles you are taking on right now touched my heart. Thank you for letting me see some of what is inside your heart with your amazing writing.
With love,
A

What a fun party! You are such a good sister. Your siblings and Dad I'm sure are so thankful for you.

Those stories about your students are disturbing... I hope June comes fast for you!
