watch for better things

Quote of the Day
Endure the present, and watch for better things.
Virgil

I forget this a lot. Sometimes I feel like the present is going to last for.evvvvvvvv.er and yet, I should know by now that life changes in an instant and "nothing gold can stay" (look at my and my bad self quoting Robert Frost again without even trying) and neither will anything plated gold or bronze or any other metal!

Today I spent the day with my sister, Erin at BYU. She was accepted as a transfer student and needed some directional assistance. This quote reminds me of her. She didn't get in to the Y as a senior in high school, but she didn't let that deter her; she endured the present (time at Weber) and prepared and planned and waited until everything would work out for applying to BYU again. This time it worked! Talking with an adviser today she learned that all her credits will transfer! Huge relief! Her institute credits will transfer! Bigger relief! And she'll be on track for graduating in a couple of years! YAY!!! We got her BYU Id so she is now officially a student at the Y!!

Walking around today was strange for me, I'll admit. I loved being at BYU while I was there and today made me realize how glad I am that that phase of my life is over. I also realized again that most of the value we give a place circles around the people who are there. Walking around today made me remember all my wonderful roommates, friends, guys I dated, kids from my hometown, etc that I used to run into all the time while I was there and today, I didn't see a single person I knew. I drove Erin passed all the places I lived and remember how much fun I had and all the great memories of being in college. I'm so excited Erin will get to have fun Y memories, too!

I'll stoke the rumors at school by admitting that I interviewed with Canyons school district today. Man! I look awesome on paper-- fluent in Spanish, ESL endorsement, Master degree with an emphasis in reading... The interviewer is an asst principal at Alta High and when it was my turn to ask questions, he didn't know the answer  to most of them (is it true that English teachers have to turn in scripted lesson plans?), was embarrassed by others (what do your class sizes look like?), and wasn't prepared for me to not ask anything about the salary schedule (I'll lose over 2k if I switch districts now-- they'll only take 7 or my 9 years of experience and will pay me for 8... weird). While I do want to switch schools, I'm not convinced that's what I need/should do.

I'm enduring the present and watching for better things!

I definatley wouldn't settle for just any school district, but I would be running from your current school. j/k. I don't think Iknow where Canyon's School DIstrict is?? hmmm. I really can't believe they didn't have the answers to your questions.
