So, book recommendation for you: The Christmas Sweater by Glenn Beck! I got it for Christmas from my dad and I LOVED it!
It's based on a true story from Glenn's life about getting a handmade sweater from his mom that he didn't like. The story's moral lesson comes as Eddy learns what happens when he lets his bad attitude take over his life. Sure, lots of bad things have happened to Eddy but he creates a very negative world for himself because he won't listen to people and decides that God is out to get him.
There's a "guide" character in the book who makes these statements:
"You may not know who you are, Eddie, but I do. And I know that you are meant to walk through this storm... There's so much more waiting for you, and you're worthy of every ounce of it" (page 247).
"Sometimes the hardest part of the journey is believing that you're worthy of the trip" (page 247).
I think my favorite statement is this one because it gave me a new perspective on the word "atonement":
"A-tone-ment. It's the chance to fix the unfixable and to start all over again. It begins when you forgive yourself for all you've done wrong, and forgive others for all they've done to you. Your mistakes aren't mistakes anymore, they're just things that make you stronger. Atonement is the great redeeming and equalizing force that leads to the fulfillment of all thing: every hug you've ever longed for, every Ferris wheel, baseball game, and walk in the snow you've missed. Everyone that you've loved and lost. Atonement, Eddie, is heaven on earth" (page 251).
It's not very long and is a pretty easy read but a fabulous story :)
