1. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
I'd never read it before (sad, I know!) but LOVED it!! I'm really not a Dicken's fan by any stretch of the imagination but I really liked it. Dickens' classic characters of Scrooge and Marley are so wonderfully created and described and characterized. A definite must read!
2. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
I was supposed to read this for my book club for Dec. but it was always
checked out of the library but it was there when I went last week. WONDERFUL!! It's set in Harrogate, England (which I just so happen to know where it is because I visited a friend who lives there). Basically, there's a famous authoress who is dying and wants someone to write her biography and help her get rid of the "ghosts" who have been haunting her memory since childhood. The book goes back and forth between the present time and the biographer woman's life and the past with the authoresses story. Very intriguing, fabulously mysterious, and overall, captivating! It was one of those books where the characters stuck with me for a while and I dreamed about twins with green eyes for days. Plus, for fans of reading, there are great references to the joys of reading.
3. Counting Stars by Michelle Paige HolmesA cheesy LDS novel where a single (LDS) girl finds love and trials book-- so fun! Jane is 30, single, feeling very lonely, and answers a personal ad in the newspaper-- a small decision that changed her whole life. It's a quick read but very satisfying (especially for those who are romantic yet are feeling slightly jaded in the relationship department).
