Romp to Stomp '10
Saturday, my dear. old friend Melissa and I did our first snowshoe 5k for "Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer." It was a lot of fun experiencing show shoes along with about 300 other people (mostly women and girls) as we trudged across the Mountain Dell Golf Course in Parley's Canyon (just off I-80).
When we pulled into the parking lot, I ended up next to my car's twin, which naturally struck up a conversation with the other owner. We ended up talking with those three women a lot and learned that for the last couple of years they have flown to every "Romp to Stomp" event in the US (there are about 7 or 8) and plan to make the circuit again this year. Naturally, it helps that they work for Delta and get free/cheap flights anywhere they need to go. The women were so fun, friendly and upbeat that M and I have pretty much pledged to do this again next year!
As a fundraiser, different businesses/groups make up group names, a couple of which, I though were pretty amusing: Big or Small, Save them All or Save Second Base. I was really impressed by the outfits some women put together using a variety of pink items like a pink cowboy hat accessorized with a tiara, pink boas, or little pink tutus. One group of little girls and their moms had fun pink heart socks, pink tutus, and pink scarves (they're in the pictures above).
At one point during the awards ceremony for most money raised, etc. they had all the women who are breast cancer survivors go up front to get some prizes. It was so touching to see how although they were all strangers, they had this instant bond and this aura of peace about them. M and I talked about how even though right now breast cancer is still a stranger to our close associates, it's only a matter of time before our lives are closely touched by this and how comforting is it to know that there is a great support system out there when it does strike.
Romp to Stomp!
oh yeah, snow shoeing is probably my new favorite winter activity :) It's a great workout and it really gets your blood moving-- we ditched our coats about half way through.

How fun. I used to snowshoe a bit in high school...it's a great way to exercise! We once did a "Full Moon" snow shoe up at Albion Basin on a night with a full moon, absolutely amazing.
The pictures are cute! I hope you are feeling better!
