Beijing CityScape

Beijing, home to 19 million people. Most of these people live in government owned skyrise apartments. The entire city is littered with skyrises (of at least 20 stories), most of which are slightly (or completely) run down apartments. Here and there, you can see "traditional" Chinese architecture and in some little neighborhoods, some poeple still get around by horse and wagon.

Odd fact: we stayed at the Hilton Double Tree hotel- we were on the 12th floor. There were up to 24 floors on the button panel in the elevator. However, it was missing all the unlucky numbers of the world: 4, 9, 13, 14, etc. 4 and 9 are particularly unlucky in China and so they skip those floors. One day, I all of a sudden noticed that there were a ton of numbers missing on the panel--- so many that I didn't want to even figure out how many stories the hotel actually had!
