ICU.
She has to stay in the ICU until they can take her off blood pressure meds and another medication they give on the ICU. So, she's hoping to get out today. We're not sure where she'll go after leaving the ICU.
Platelets
Received two more units of platelets and her count dropped from 9 to 6. The nurses keep commenting that they'e never seen platelets so low. (your platelet count as a healthy person is over 150. keep in mind we're actually counting in thousands)
One theory on why they are so low is that her body is rejecting outside platelets and is killing them off.
Another theory is that the platelets are being sent to a location of bleeding ie her stomach and since they are all together there, they can't be counted when they draw her blood.
Either way, with platelets this low there's a high risk of bleeding to death since no clotting is going to happen. They're begin very careful about bleeding.
Vomiting
She hasn't vomited in about a day and a half! She's even spitting up less. It's all bloody what she does spit up, though.
Eating.
No eating allowed. She gets her TPN still and ice chips.
Tubing
She's finally getting rid of all the fluids they gave her on Tuesday so she's not as swollen and her hands/feet feel better. The stomach tube isn't pulling out blood too much anymore and they've basically stopped the hole in her stomach from leaking all over her (that, my friends, is pretty gross.... imagine leaking stomach bile and your clothes get all wet with this green gunk... ew!).
Spirits
She's in pretty good spirits and keeps wondering how long this is going to go on. Yesterday in a little chat we had about it I mentioned that Dad is convinced she's going to get better and she nodded and said, "Yes he does. I just wonder how long it's going to take. This whole thing seems so surreal."
"Being in the hospital again?" I asked.
"No, well, yes, just all of it. The last few months. It just doesn't seem like it's even real."
She's restless being in bed all the time so if she could get unhooked from a couple of things then they'd let her walk around and she'd probably feel better.
*****
I want to believe that she will get better and that her being in the hospital again is serving some greater purpose and giving her body a chance to rest and recover. I wonder what's going on with the cancer since she hasn't had chemo since May and that's what keeps it at bay. She's amazing. Her tolerance level is absolutely astounding. I would not be as patient and kind and nice as she still is with all that's going on to her.
