I took Mike out to lunch for his birthday today. I picked him up from work and we went to Rumbi (where he still felt manly ordering healthy food!). On our way, we were talking about dinner tonight and I was lamenting trying to figure out how to fix a birthday dinner and cake for him and his kids and still see my mom today. This conversation illustrates a lot about our relationship after 8.5 months of dating.
me: So, I'm going to have dinner and a cake for you after work when you get the kids picked up.
him: I don't want to take time away from your mom. You still need to be there.
me; It'll be ok. I'll make it work.
him: The mom thing trumps birthdays.
...
me: Well, I was going to just make it all at my house but then I realized all my pizza pans are at your house. Then I thought I'd do it all at your house but you don't have a frying pan.
Mike: laughing: That does present a challenge. I need to get another pan and some other cooking tools I'm missing.
me: What if our kitchens get married?
him: That's an idea
me: Then we could go visit them and have everything we need.
him: laughing: Do you ill-equipped bachelor kitchen take this well-stocked grown up kitchen?
me: laughing: My big boy grater and your mini grater could be together. How about the asking the crock pot to take the rice cooker? And the rolling pin to take the griddle?
him: It would be a great kitchen!
What's awesome is that the word "married" isn't awkward and we always make each other laugh. The kitchen thing is a running joke between us since we do so much cooking at each other's houses and we're always missing something that's at the other house.
