A goal for Thanksgiving

I need a new goal. I've decided to reread the Book of Mormon by Thanksgiving Day, starting September 1. This will give 85 days to read the entire book. According to the lds.about.com scripture calculator, with 85 days, that give 2.8 chapters a day or 6.2 pages a day. Very do-able.

My focus for this reading will be the Atonement as inspired by these words from Elder Holland, "The Savior [spoke] to His disciples as He faced His Crucifixion and as they faced fear, disarray and persecution. In His last collective counsel to them in mortality, He said: 'These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world' (John 16:33).
"So, in a world of tribulation, let's remember our faith... And let's live life more fully, with more boldness and courage that at any other time.
"Christ has overcome the world and made a path for us."
(Ensign, Sept. 2011, p. 10)

With the stress and trials that seem to keep coming, I've been thinking that I need to focus more time on the Savior and would like a renewed thankfulness this Thanksgiving for the Atonement and all that it covers... including all our sorrows and heartache and pain and sadness... so that I can live life more fully. We don't know how long we will actually be here and it would be nice to know when it's time to go, that life has been lived courageously and boldly.

Care to join me?!

I will. I just started reading the BOM again on my own and I think I did chapters 5-6 this morning, so I have a slight head start, but not much. I could use some of the same of what you are seeking. I still need to tell you what's been going on with us, but I don't want to burden you with everything you're already carrying. I am especially looking forward to the holidays this year and this BOM project will be a nice countdown of sorts.

I like your new background. I am going to join you, if you don't mind. I, too, need to strengthen my bond with the Savior. I think reading the Book of Mormon will do wonders for me. I have to start tonight, otherwise in 4 days I will be even more behind :). Thanks for the challenge.

This is just what I needed! I'm teaching a YW lesson on Sunday about scripture study, and committed to start a deeper personal study in preparation for the lesson. I'm excited to join you! PS...cute new blogger template :)

I was thinking of you and some of the things you've written in this blog as some friends of mine were sealed together in the temple today, a month before their sweet 3 year old daughter is scheduled to go through an EXTREMELY risky surgery.

While my heart breaks for their pain and for yours, the things you've been writing have helped me also be filled with overwhelming gratitude for the incredible blessing it is that we are allowed to have the gospel and to know - to have the Spirit tell us directly and individually - that it's all true; that there really is a plan, that Christ is right there with us through whatever we're faced with as part of that plan, and (above all) that death is not the end.

I think reading the Book of Mormon with a focus on the Atonement by Thanksgiving is a perfect idea. I'd love to join you.
