oh west lake, dear west lake

And my school is in the news again.... in all the city's papers...

I definitely don't condone throwing a pop can at a kid.

But... the article says the kid brought a drink to class (which is against school rules, ps); argued with the teacher; drank the soda in front of her; and then threw the can away. After all of this, the teachers got the can out of the trash and threw it at the kid-- after smashing it in his hand. Uncalled for? Unquestionably yes. Understandable? Sadly yes.

I've had this happen to me. It's SO ANNOYING. This type of kid usually shows up late to class, with a drink, and then acts like they own the world as they stand there and drink it as the rest of the class watches them laughing and looking at the teacher wondering what you're going to do next. Kids think they can do whatever they want without consequence, because, well, they can. Jr High kids seem to find joy in subverting any type of authority and since they know they can get away with it, they figure out buttons on all the adults in the building and then push and prod them until someone finally snaps.

The teacher in question is new to the school as of this year. Her son passed away unexpectedly last fall. And it's been a rough year by all counts.

You might expect that we'd have an email from the boss explaining the "real" story of what happened to our colleague or what might happen to her, to dispel public rumors, but that would be overestimating our boss. He's not really a fan of communication.
