This amazing place surrounds a man-made lake that connects through waterways with the Forbidden City. The emperor at some point built this to have a private get-a-away during the hot Beijing summer. There are lots of buildings all brightly painted, cool dragon boats to take you across the lake, and lots of older people hanging out together, singing songs and just being retired (most people in China retire by 55 and then just hang out).
